DEPARTMENT PROFILE

The Department of Physical Education and Sports of Lakshmibai College aims at the overall development of students and hence, offers a combination of academics as well as sports activities. With two faculty members Dr. Sunita Arora and Dr. Seema Sharma, the department has been teaching the papers of Physical Education and conducting numerous sports activities at the same time in different sports at various levels in our college premises. The department offers Physical Education as one of the Discipline paper in the B.A. (Programme) in combination with Political Science and Psychology Disciplines. Various papers of physical education are offered as Discipline Specific Core (DSC), Discipline Specific Elective (DSE), and Skill Enhancement (SEC) courses in a span of three years.

We provide infrastructure and coaching facility throughout the year for various sports including Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Baseball, Boxing, Cricket, Judo, Kabaddi, Kho-kho, Netball, Power-lifting, Softball, Volleyball, Weight-lifting, Wrestling and Yoga.Recently, we have added an Indoor Shooting Range for practice (Rifle & Pistol). Besides this, the college has a well-equipped gymnasium to cater to the fitness needs of students, teachers and non-teaching staff. The sports facilities are open to all the students to join sports any time.We also have the supporting staff to maintain these grounds throughout the session.

Sports is considered to be the Hallmark of Lakshmibai College and we are among the top two overall best performing colleges of DU in women sports.  Students participate in differentgames at different levels and win laurels. Starting from the Inter-College, Inter-University, State and National, many of our students have become international. The list includes Ms. Sushma, who represented India in XIX Commonwealth Games 2010; & Ms. Jyoti Lohiya, who is an International Wrestler and Bharat Kesari. The others athletes who represented India in different sports events include Sunita, Pushpa & Rekha in Athletics; Ritu Dhruv in Cricket; Sanjana Chaudhary in Netball; and Vipula in Master Athletics. Our own faculty Dr. Seema Kaushik has won medals in different International Athletic Meets for Masters.

In the last few years, our students are making a mark in the Indian Baseball team. Recently, Manisha Chaudhary, Bhawna, Shweta, Monica, Chetna, Siji Anayan, Amanpreet Kaur & Neha Gupta represented India in different Asian Baseball Championships. Meenakshi won the bronze medal in the Asian Acrobat Gymnastics in the year 2019-20.

Our students have been fortunate to be guided and blessed by many renowned guests in our college on sports day including Kiran Bedi, Kirti Azad, Raman Lamba, Manoj Prabhakar, Padmshree Satpal, Sunita Godara, Asha Aggarwal, Pramod Sharma, Cpt. Kanwaljeet Kaur, Dharmender Yadav, Kuldeep Vats and many more.

We have also been conducting different tournaments in our college. Any student of the college can join sports and practice to achieve excellence.
