VIVEKANANDA STUDY CIRCLE

Vivekananda Study Circle Report 2017-18

Vivekananda Study Circle, Lakshmibai College, is a result of great initiative taken by the Principal and teaching faculty of the college. Swami Vivekananda is a great inspiration for the youth all over the world. He has been one of the greatest spiritual leaders of the modern world. His lectures delivered at the World Parliament of Religions held in Chicago in 1893 and subsequent lecturing and teaching work for four and a half years in the USA and England, have been a great influence in changing the opinion of West about India.

He showed the world that India is the land of spirituality, harmony, and rich cultural heritage. Through his lectures Swami Vivekananda awakened the minds of Indians to their glorious cultural heritage, infused self-confidence and positive outlook in them, and drew their attention to the immediate need to uplift the downtrodden masses of India. He has been the first spiritual leader in modern India to speak for the poor masses and to take up different forms of selfless service to them. He is a universal ideal for modern youth. He passed away at the age of thirty-nine and a half years. But before that he achieved so much in his life and contributed so much to the welfare, progress, and spiritual elevation of humanity during the short period of his youth that it has few parallels in history.

Lakshmibai College, University of Delhi, joined the rest of the country and many other nations of the world in commemorating the 153rd Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda on 12 January, 2016, through the efforts of Vivekananda Study Circle. A number of programs were organized to mark the occasion.

Following events were organized on the occasion for students of the College.

It has been a steady effort of the Vivekananda Study Circle to initiate the students into imbibing Swami ji’s philosophy into their lives.  The teachings of Swami Vivekananda are modern, rational, and universal. They provide guidance to modern youth to attain success, prosperity, health and happiness. These powerful teachings infuse self-confidence and inner strength to face the problems of life such as failure, criticism, depression, and so on. They also infuse in the hearts of young people love for all, compassion for suffering people, and the spirit of service. The teachings of Swami Vivekananda enable young people to lead a moral and spiritual life, and attain true fulfillment and peace in life.
