Department of Physical Education & Sports

The Department of Physical Education and Sports of Lakshmibai College aims at the overall development of students and hence, offers a combination of academics as well as sports. With two faculty members i.e. Dr. Sunita Arora and Dr. Seema Kaushik, the department has been teaching the application course in B.A. (Prog.) III year – Fitness, Aerobics and Gym Operations since 2008 and successfully organized many sports events in different sports at various levels in our college. We also provide infrastructure and coaching facility throughout the year for various sports including archery, athletics, ball badminton, baseball, basketball, chess, cross country, cricket, handball, judo, kabaddi, kho-kho, netball, power-lifting, shooting (rifle and pistol), softball, taekwondo, table tennis, volleyball, weight-lifting, wrestling and yoga. Besides this, the college has a well-equipped gymnasium to cater to the fitness needs of general students, ex-students as well as teachers. Students represent the institute in all these games at different levels including inter-college, inter-university, state, national and open tournaments etc. 
Sports
Sports is considered to be the Hallmark of Lakshmibai College. We have reached up to top most colleges in women sports in DU throughout the journey.  Starting from the Inter-College, Inter-University, State and National, many of our students have become international. To name a few, Ms. Jyoti Lohiya is International Wrestler and Bharat Kesari; and Ms. Sushma represented India in XIX Commonwealth Games 2010; Sunita, Pushpa & Rekha are International athletes; Ritu Dhruv is an international cricketer; and our faculty Dr. Seema Kaushik is an international master athlete. We offer specialized coaching in around 25 games including Archery, Athletics, Boxing, Baseball, Chess, Cricket, Cross Country,  Handball, Judo, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Netball, Power-lifting, Pistol Shooting, Rifle Shooting, Taekwondo, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Wrestling, Weight-lifting and Yoga in order to develop the capacity of our students from absolutely raw to reach up to such high levels of performances. Our students have been fortunate to be guided and blessed by many renowned guests in our college on sports day including Kiran Bedi, Kirti Azad, Raman Lamba, Padmshree Satpal, Sunita Godara, Cpt. Kanwaljeet, Asha Aggarwal, Dharmender Yadav and many more.
Whether admitted on the basis of sports or on merit basis, any student of the college can join sports and practice to achieve excellence at various levels of competition and choose to make it a career choice.

·       To initiate the International Journal from our department of Physical education/ College of Physical Education or Social Sciences

·       Organisation of additional Sports activities/ events at regular intervals in the college premises.
