Established in the year 1984, the Department of Home Science at Lakshmibai College is ranked high in the north campus. It offers BA programme with Food Technology and with Apparel Design and Construction under CBCS. Additionally, Generic Electives in Nutrition as well as Fashion are available for the students of BA (Hons), BCom (Hons) and BSc (Hons).
Highly qualified and dedicated faculty with extensive teaching, research and field experience is in place. The team comprises of Dr Anita Malhotra Associate Professor, Dr Sabrina Sareen, Assistant Professor and two ad-hoc teachers. There are two well-equipped, newly renovated, state-of-art laboratories for practical training which forms an integral part of the curriculum.
The department is actively involved in research and in organizing national seminars, symposia, workshops and lectures related to food and apparel. The teaching pedagogy is innovative and students engage in New product development, Power point presentations, Project work and Field visits. Both the streams of the department showcase their products through an exhibition-cum-sale held every year on the College Day.
As extension activity, the department reaches out to students and faculty by creating awareness about food safety, nutrition and life style through National Nutrition Celebration, Food and Nutrition Festival and Healthy Recipe Competitions held every year. The department also arranges Saree draping competition, Fashion shows as well as Food and Craft Mela inviting President awardee master craftsmen to showcase their products and teach embroidery skills to students.
