Dr. Nirmal Shahid is working as Associate Professor of Punjabi language & literature in the Department of Punjabi, Lakshmibai College University of Delhi Ashok Vihar Delhi since 20th August 2004. She obtained her Master’s degree in Punjabi Literature from University of Delhi in 1987. She then joined the same Department of Punjabi University of Delhi, and completed her M. Phil dissertation on the topic of “Fakhar Zaman De Novel Bewatna Di Galp Vidi” in 1989 and Ph. D on “The Principle of Punjabi Novels based on leading Punjabi Novelist” in 1994. She also obtained a Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Course in Urdu language from the Department of Urdu, University of Delhi from 1992-95.

Dr. Nirmal Shahid has about twenty years of extensive experience in the field of teaching. She worked as member of several learned bodies like Departmental Research Committee (DRC) Moderation Committee and UG Course Revising Committee in the Department of Punjabi University of Delhi and the Lakshmibai College like Hindi Drama society, Magazine Committee, Punjabi literary and cultural society, Music and dance society, and Library Committee. She writes on various aspects of language and literature. Her articles and short stories are published in various journals and some articles included in the edited books also. She translated some Sanskrit and Hindi stories into Punjabi, and some Urdu poetry into Hindi. She has delivered invited lectures and participated in national and international seminars on language-literature and culture issues. She is the author of 1 book.
