Career Profile

In a long teaching career of about a quarter of a century, Deeba Zafir has striven to instill critical thinking in her students, while simultaneously retaining the joy of learning. Exhorting her students to go beyond the text and explore the possibilities of new ways of knowing, she has encouraged them to tap into their potential for originality in order to develop their own critical insights. As a translator, she has also brought a multi-lingual understanding to the making of texts and their meanings.

She has organized several orientation programs, talks and film screenings to underscore the interdisciplinary nature of the learning experience in the field of literature.

She also mooted the idea of a Wall Magazine 'Words Unlimited' that provided a forum for creative expression, which was managed completely by students, who successfully brought out several editions.

She has recently submitted her doctoral thesis to the University of Delhi, entitled "Dream Deferred" : Urban Aspirations and Sensibility in Dalit Short Fiction in Hindi (2021).
